Energy Institute Seminar - Coventry University, 28th September 2004 AWAKE scientists were invited to give a presentation at a seminar organised by the Energy Institute. The focus of the seminar was improving safety in petroleum storage facitlities and distribution operations. The Awake presentation focused on the dangers of work-related fatigue and tiredness caused by long hours, working at times of the day when alertness is at a minimum, and the sleep loss associated with shifwork. The presentation drew on AWAKE’s significant experience in working with accident investigation and consultancy projects conducted for companies working in the petroleum industry. The seminar also addressed the latest developments in fatigue management, which employ a risk engineering approach to addressing fatigue, with the goal being to enable organisations to become fatigue-safe.
