In November 2005, the ASTiD system was cited as an example of a technology in a report by the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) for our continuing work on road safety, fatigue management, and strategies for managing life in the emerging 24/7 society. All of the details can be found in POSTnote number 250.

The ASTiD system - developed in partnership with the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University - was mentioned specifically in the report. The POST report cites ASTiD as a technology which has the potential to help reduce safety risks. Moreover, the POST report says that ASTiD ”can spot the onset of tiredness in advance, and warn the driver by audible and visual alerts, even before they are aware of it.” (p.4).

The major European logistics firm, Christian Salvesen, has already fitted over 10% of its fleet with ASTiD. Access the full POST Report - and other POST documents – is available at this location (PDF):

In other news, The International Association of Oil & Gas producers (OGP) has recently cited fatigue consultancy work by Awake and research by the Loughborough Sleep Research Centre in their report on "Land Transportation Recommended Safety Practice.” That report may be viewed online at this url (PDF document):

The International Association of Oil & Gas producers (OGP) encompasses most of the world’s leading publicly-traded, private and state-owned oil & gas companies, oil & gas associations and major upstream service companies. OGP members produce more than half the world’s oil and about one third of its gas.

OGP also helps members achieve continuous improvements in safety, health and environmental performance and in the engineering and operation of upstream ventures. OGP’s extensive international membership brings with it a wealth of know-how, data and experience. OGP committees and task forces manage the exchange and dissemination of this knowledge through Publications and Events around the world.
