David Barnes joins Awake in February 2006 from his work as a private efficiency and safety consultant for the logistics industry. Most recently he has been a contracted consultant for Transport Research Laboratories, working on behalf of the UK Department for Transport (DfT). His primary work in this area was to liase with logistics providers to assess their management processes and to review operations surrounding fuel efficiency.

The vast majority of Mr. Barnes’ extensive industry experience has been in the operations and logistics arm of large multi-national corporations such as BP Oil UK and Castrol SPU, culminating with a position as the UK National Transport Manager for Castrol SPU. Mr. Barnes has also worked in Industrial Relations and as a Human Resources Manager. In recent years he has also worked on several major projects surrounding supply-chain management and operational efficiency including a number of UK Department for Transport (DfT) projects.

David Barnes brings further vital industry experience to the team and we look forward to his contributions to our ongoing and new accounts.

In recent months, Awake has also recently hired Dr. Pauline Barrett of Loughborough University as a research consultant.

Dr. Barrett is based at the world-renowned Loughborough Sleep Research Centre (SRC) and is a specialist on the human biology of sleep and waking. She will mainly be involved in primary research carried out at the SRC in Loughborough under the supervision of Professor Horne and Dr. Reyner.

Awake has also hired Michael Gibson (BA, MSc) of University College London (UCL) as a research assistant. He is responsible for open source research into workplace health and safety issues as well as general editing and administrative work.
