In-car CD is a snore-fire hit

Auto Express
01/06/2003 MOST motorists listen to CDs in the car for entertainment, but this one is designed to send you to sleep. Called the Driver Reviver, it has been developed to help road users take a short nap when having a break on a long journey. We listened to the CD, which is produced by AWAKE, a consultancy linked to the renowned Loughborough Sleep Research Centre in Leicestershire.

CD created to help drivers doze.

Pink noise is used to induce sleep during rest stops on a long journey

After instructions and words of advice, a calming voice encourages the listener to breathe slowly before what is described as 'pink noise' begins playing. It sounds similar to a waterfall or a radio that hasn't been tuned into a station….. and it's remarkably relaxing. After 15 minutes, during which time the listener is encouraged to doze off, the voice returns to tell the driver to wake up. There's a short alarm to help bring you round, followed by a recommendation that, before setting off again, the driver should get out and stretch their legs.

The AWAKE Driver Reviver CD costs 11.95, with a tape version at 8.95.
